I was given my first lump of high fire clay when I was 4 and I haven’t run out of ideas yet. My only fear is that life will be too short for all my sketches to come to life. I have several sides to my art. I have a serious side where I like to reflect on “things that evoke joy”, like the feeling of swinging and leaning back and letting your hair touch the ground. The other side of my art is making light of life. In other words things that could drive you crazy if you let them. For example, I may respond to a person who won’t listen by creating a sculpture of a person with a brick for a head. Humor is a beautiful thing and I enjoy making it visual. It is said that you should stop and smell the flowers once in a while to appreciate life, but I think along with smelling them you should also learn to poke fun at them. In making fun you observe more and it helps put things into perspective. After all, they are just flowers.
